From Woodland to Fire

1. Coppicing

Sweet chestnut is sustainably harvested as part of traditional woodland management, helping maintain healthy forests, encourage biodiversity, and support local wildlife habitats.

2. Drying & Preparation

The timber is carefully processed and naturally seasoned before being cut and prepared for charcoal production.

3. Charcoal Production

Our charcoal is traditionally produced in ring kilns, a time-honoured method that creates high-quality lumpwood charcoal with an excellent natural burn.

To continue improving both quality and sustainability, we have also recently invested in a modern Exeter Retort Kiln. This advanced system is far more efficient, allowing us to produce charcoal with lower emissions, improved fuel efficiency, and greater consistency while still retaining the natural character of traditional British lumpwood charcoal.

By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, we can produce premium sustainable charcoal while reducing waste and environmental impact.

4. Bagging & Delivery

Once cooled, the charcoal is graded, bagged locally, and prepared for delivery — ready for BBQs, pizza ovens, fire pits, and outdoor cooking.
