Sustainable British Lumpwood Charcoal | Surrey & Sussex BBQ Charcoal

Rooted in Traditional Woodland Management

At Chiddingfold Charcoal, we produce high-quality sustainable lumpwood charcoal from sweet chestnut — a natural by-product of our coppicing work.

Coppicing is a centuries-old woodland management practice that encourages healthy tree growth, improves biodiversity, and supports thriving woodland habitats. By using timber sourced entirely within a 15-mile radius of Chiddingfold, we keep our production local, sustainable, and low impact.

Every batch is carefully produced to create natural charcoal that burns hotter, cleaner, and longer than mass-produced alternatives.

Our commitment to sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

Working from Chiddingfold, we responsibly manage sweet chestnut woodlands within a 15-mile radius, supporting traditional coppicing and helping to maintain healthy, biodiverse woodlands.

We make full use of every tree we harvest. Quality timber becomes handcrafted fencing, while the remaining wood is transformed into natural lumpwood charcoal and firewood, minimising waste and making the most of this valuable local resource.

By sourcing and producing everything locally, we reduce transport miles while supporting British woodland management and rural businesses.
